Medics SHOULD have guns, absolutely. In most major cities, you'll die before EMS gets to you, because the police have to get to you first and secure the scene before they're even allowed in, because paramedics and fire getting ambushed, shot, killed responding to a call is rampant. It's why EMS wears body armor in many cities now.
When I lived in St Louis County and listened to my radio scanner all the time, you'd hear it constantly: someone in medical distress, or a fire, and ems/fire is on scene staging for police to secure the scene, and it would add 5 -10 minutes for police to get there, clear the area, and guarantee the medics/firefighters safety before they could even enter and assess the situation. That's a long time to be dying or on fire to have to wait AFTER help has already arrived, but it's what they have to do to stay alive.
I fully support EMS and firefighters being armed, to have the same means of defense at work as I do being a regular person.
