@ThomasSorensen1 And came of age in Hyperinflation, a wage/price freeze, stagflation, interest rates that would make your hair fall out to think about. And boomer unemployment in the mid/late 70's was worse than anything in modern experience. The first boomers did get absorbed into the economy but the bulk of boomers were left out, as in a giant economic game of musical chairs. That's WHY there were hippies, the world had really no room for us.

Tuition rose because the government started giving out grants and loans willy-nilly and inflation is the natural result. The Greatest Generation did that to you. I paid for college with a part time campus job before grants became a big thing, followed closely by loans. Colleges are monolithic institutions who organically cannot pass up a buck.

@cmtmj2006 Conservative baby boomers fought this silliness for over 50 years. We warned that someone would get the bill and here you are, voting in more progressives than ever before ( as conservative boomers die out ). It is time to join the fight or just STFU.

@globalfamily8172 In 1972 I attended a state four year college and tuition was $187.50 tuition and fees. Not books ( those were about 20 bucks each). I commuted so no party dorm. I paid for with a campus job paying $1.60/hr. By 1975, the government was offering big grants and loans and inflating the tuition.

We did not bankrupt our way out of student loans, we did not have them. College was affordable if you worked ( and did not insist on an out of state school to party for four years ). Then the government guaranteed loans and offered grants so the prices rose to unbelievable heights, blame the greatest generation which was in congress at the time for that. I paid $187.50/yr for four year state college/tuition and fees. When the government offers help, expect disaster. You guys got screwed but it was not by boomers.
