  4. No one is going to initiate a world extinction event over Ukraine; not Russia, not the USA. When Russia invades Poland, they will make the same threats and we will stand and watch. If the US sent waves of fighters to clear the skies over Ukraine, Putin would be put-out, but he would not be facing an existential threat and not commit suicide over it. Nukes only exist to protect their owners from existential threats. If Ukraine won today, Russia would carry on tomorrow.

  6. They found natural gas in Ukraine which could break Russia's near-monopoly supplying Germany. Russia does not desire to rule over the ashes, they want to increase their GDP. It's a simple "Give me your lunch money." situation.

  7. That they do, but as they are not facing an existential threat, they'll never go nuclear and cause an extinction event. Plenty to gain with a win, little to lose with a loss, and suicide to overplay.
