Oscar Pulgarin Ebola may have a very high mortality rate in undeveloped countries, but was never a threat to any nation that has clean water, sewers and sanitary funeral practices. It was indeed a lot of hype and BS, that gets RATINGS. in 2017-2018, 42 million Americans caught the flu, an airborne disease. That year the flu had a mortality rate of .0015% it killed 60,000+ people. If the airborne coronavirus goes wild in the US with a 4% to 12 % (still indeterminate ) mortality rate, it wont be "hype". It will not end civilization, but it will be a horror.

If we ASSUME that all numbers coming from China are true and correct, AND we know that a large percentage of the "tested positive" infected are already on ventilators. The death toll will rise quite a bit in the next week. If they fudged ANY numbers ( like big numbers that scare countries into quarantining cities) then all bets are off. If I believe that in a city of 11 million people, ALL of the infected world travelers managed to encounter at least one of the initial <500 known patients long enough to be exposed and during the time when they were contagious, I will have to choose to forget everything I was taught about statistics. OR, admit to myself that the country that just quarantined about 40 million people is either having a collective panic attack, or they are LYING. They did, of course, understate the number of SARS cases initially by 1000%. I'll go with my gut on this one.
