@Forgotten Weapons ... concerning the "legal/quality issues" of the rifle I would say that "it has been pushed beyond its performance envelope" is the right call. Here is why: - There is a term in german called "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" (egg-laying, wool- and milk-giving pig) which was created in the Bundeswehr for weapon systems that "can do it all". This seems to be a trend, but not a good trend, because it usually ruins the weapon. - It was the reason for the Starfighter desasters we had 40 years back, after the Bundeswehr demanded that this fighter plane to be modified to carry [nuclear] bombs [provided by the allies] for example. This ruined the working aerial capabilities and made it MUCH harder/DANGEROUS to fly and the reason for many many crashes and dead pilots. - Some newer aircraft projects seem to have the same problems ... where "feature creep" pushes delivery of the planes further back and makes the whole thing FAR more expensive. - This "one rifle to do it all" mentality seems to be appliccable to the G36 "desaster" ...
