OF COURSE THE PEOPLE ARE DUMB! Here is why: take a conveyor belt which isnt running, put a ball on it ... turn it on. The ball will START TO "ROLL" in the other direction ... because of INERTIA! The plane is just a "slightly larger [and less efficient] ball with more friction" and the wheels would start turning ... unless you very slowly start up the conveyor belt, which would make the friction effect bigger than the inertia.

Of course the plane can take off, because IT IS NOT A CAR ... and thus "the ground moving in the opposite direction" DOESNT REALLY MATTER (the wheels just turn a bit faster). The PROPULSION comes from "the PROPELLER / JET ENGINE" and the THRUST is not affected by that conveyer belt. The plane starts with ZERO MOVEMENT and if the conveyor belt starts running ... INERTIA would dictate that THE WHEELS START TURNING and the plane stays where it is. The only reason why the plane moves backward is friction in the axle ...
