  1. From an "engineering standpoint" the palm trees should have the axis on the middle of the "plate", because that would - IRL - make it much easier (=quicker) to open/fold away with the center of weight above the axis. "Folding up" like this would be a huge pain due to the weight only being on one side of the axis.
