  1.  @timmy7201  Seats on trains are much bigger than on a plane ... so even if there is a sweaty person around ... it is much farther away AND you might even be able to open the window (on a slower train).

The german number of 320 is only THEORETICAL, because you need an actual high-speed line to do it and thanks to the geography and the "equally dense spread of cities" ... they typically have to slow down soon enough again, which makes it impossible to actually reach that kind of speed consistently. There are also noise regulations, which means they cant go as fast as possible. In France there are a lot more areas without villages & cities, so they could actually build a dedicated set of lines for high speed.
