If you read the Jane Austen novels ... it is about "women being ACCOMPLISHED" ... speaking languages, playing instruments, drawing skill, ABILITY TO HOLD A CONVERSATION ... and infidelity is frowned upon. There is also: MEN ask women to dance, WOMEN may reject them BUT ONLY in a way of "I do not want to dance anymore this evening". A balanced system IMO.

If the girl has a good / tight connection with her parents / FATHER ... it is a good sign! At least you can judge her by how her father is. If daddy is a weak spirited guy that gets bossed around or workaholic and never at home ... it is bad, but if he "has a say" that's good.
