  1. "Just one little change" ... and the answer needs to be a resounding NO! Gatekeeping is NOT A BAD THING ... when you keep people out who arent part of "it" and instantly need to change "it".

IMO "canon" should NOT BE "the official version" ... but rather "the universe built around a franchise IN ITS CONSISTENT FORM" ... and anything that BREAKS CONSISTENCY should not be considered canon. Minor infringements (re-imagining metochlorines in Episode I) can be forgiven due to "the original definition being sufficiently vague".
