  1. Back in "medieval times" the muslim nations were pretty cultured and scientific, BUT they fell behind due to the religious prohibition of depicting humans (who are made in the image of god). You cant have a medical book written without an image of a human for example. So in a sense all these "bans on publication" are doing exactly the same ... holding western society/science (this time) back.
