All the Japanese would have had to do was invade Hawaii ... then the long supply chain would have fallen on the side of the USA and reconquering Hawaii would have become a major problem (if they fortified it). This would ONLY have worked with a surprise strike ... and luckily they didnt do it, because it could have succeeded.

@Styx Just look at Obama ... he didnt even need to ask Congress if he could bomb stuff because JSOC is outside the usual military chain of command and Obama turned it into "the presidents private army".
