  1. I put some money in a Section 457 account (kind of a public-sector version of a 401(k)), and it enabled me to retire two years earlier. My defined-benefit retirement plan is my primary source of retirement income, and it's pretty decent since I put in 41 years of service with the same employer. No complaints here, for sure.
