You usually hit the nail on the head Stossel but you, like everyone else, are missing a huge part of the conversation. What about those of us that have already had and 'survived' the virus? There is absolutely ZERO reason that we should be getting the shot.

I'm sure they'll tell us all we need to forgive each other. Green Energy Amnesty has quite the ring to it, doesn't it?

I can tell you one thing; I've lost incredible respect for my middle-schooler's teachers. They each only offer 1 hour of their time per week to actually work with the students. ONE HOUR, and all of the students who need help have to fight over that single hour per week. My son doesn't even try to get into the zoom meetings with his teachers anymore, he just gets his help from my wife and I. All of their work and learning is either on their ipads or on education sites. The teachers just outline the syllabus and grade their work. It's incredible. It's ridiculous. I've always defended teachers as 'much more than simply daycare workers', but my opinion of them is rapidly changing at this point.

@scottp2462 And what has happened, in every case in history, when it scales up past a VERY small scale?
13
I used to be the same way, but after years of dirty tactics, name calling and fit throwing my heart has hardened. I now have zero interest in even trying to associate with people who refuse to hear my side, or try to shame me for simply wanting the government to leave me the hell alone.

@ZapfireAlex What costs are going down? Every time I make a trip to the store I see the opposite.

Everyone in this thread is leaving out the most important factor....available credit. The reason costs for things like cars and houses (edit: and college tuition) outpace the rest of the market is that debt is easier than ever to take on. With easier access to financing more people are willing to buy more than they can really afford. Almost NOBODY pays for cars with cash today. The demand and availability of cheap credit has driven the prices up, and will continue to do so as long as the debt is freely taken on, by both the people AND the irresponsible government.

Especially since we are forced to pay in at gunpoint.

@Jimraynor45 So.....we should just stop letting people vote and dictate to them how things are going to be? Your statement makes zero sense.
4
@ZapfireAlex And you believe that, with the current costs, that importing MORE goods will somehow make them cheaper?

The biggest 'issue' with capitalism is that it removes perspective. For example: People in the United States have it SO easy that they can be duped with next to zero effort by people telling them that they have it rough, simply because they've never actually had it rough.
2
@chefnyc They already do. Look at how welfare is paid out based on dependents.
2
We need term limits and big vats of tar and big bags of feathers.

RFK is all over the place. I don't understand how anyone who listens to him talk actually supports him. His only real consistency is that every single one of his policies leads to bigger government. He wants to cut subsidies while also subsidizing the entire housing market. He wants to cut this and that and save the environment while banning nuclear...he wants to increase our freedoms but limit our freedom to protect ourselves. No thanks.

Californians are flocking to my state too. Thankfully we keep growth VERY limited, so they simply can't come in the volume that they want to. It's easy to spot someone from Cali too. They are always hesitant to tell you where they are from, and they are always the last to hold the door for you or say hello when you see them on the street. They know what they did to their own state, and the chances are that they are going to continue to vote and live exactly the way they did before.
2
Wait a second...isn't that lady lecturing about 'colonization' the same one who's grandmother lives in squalor while she hobnobs with fat cats and stacks loot?
2
"If you do this prices will rise and jobs will be lost." ~ anyone with a brain. "Nuh-uh." ~ Newsom and his cronies Prices rise, jobs are lost. "That didn't happen." ~ Newsom and his cronies Just waiting for "Well, it did happen, but here's why it's good for you. Also if it's bad it's Trump's fault."

@mikelgeren149 If everyone were as disciplined as you the world would be a MUCH better place.
2
But we sure as hell can give everyone else into poverty.
2
Make no mistake, the divide between left and right is absolutely intentional. As long as we are divided against one another we cannot band together to toss our 'leaders' out on their asses.

Instead of government 'doing something' I'd prefer they stop doing the something that got us this inflation to begin with.
1
Degrowth would actually be better for us all in some scenarios. Example: If these terminally online activists would de-grow, get rid of their smart devices and disconnect from the internet. Also "rigorous journalism" translates directly to "agrees with me and will spread my cause, no questions asked".

The best grifts are the ones that perpetuate the problem they supposedly address.

Just goes to show you how lucrative running a union actually is...
1
The one thing you are missing is that nobody is forcing those students to take out those loans. This is a big oversight for nearly everyone who talks about this. If the individual had a little forethought and held themselves accountable you wouldn't see these astronomical loans with nothing to show for it.

Usually I'm on board with you Stossel but you are WAY off on this, especially with regards to the import of food. Sure you get a jar of pickles and the store that sold them to you gets money, but it makes a difference whether those cucumbers were grown and processed in India vs here in the U.S. You are handwaving away the farming, processing, shipping etc. Handwaving away all of the things that happen before the transaction between store and customer is silly, especially when you use false equivalence, as if one job is the same as the next. Trade itself isn't the problem. The reliance on trade to the point that you become wholly dependent upon it is.

They don't start by taking miles...they start by taking inches, and they've been taking inches for decades.

I didn't realize I needed a Stossel/Rippa team-up until now. Excellent.
1
Hippie Style Which then begs the question: Why have the teachers at all if the curriculum is such that each teacher only needs to provide a meager hour of their time per week actually teaching the students?
1
That dude is so close to finally waking up/being redpilled.
1
My man spitting truth and rocking the TMNT shirt. I love it.

I almost never comment twice on a video but I have to say just how hilarious I find it when people who are supposedly 'anti-racist' base the foundation of their argument on the false believe that people of color simply aren't capable of the same academic standards. The irony of that belief structure trying to present itself as somehow good for nonwhite people is just incredible.
1
Nope. I've voted Libertarian for 4 straight cycles. The time for wishful thinking is over.
1
Also, she's 'woke'....double nope.
1
The money behind this doesn't care about the salmon. They care about controlling you.
1
@graysonguinn1943 You sound like you have some basic financial literacy. Most people don't.
1
Unions killing the competition. Tale as old as....unions.
1
Woke educators want to eliminate tests in order to remove any sources of data that can actually prove whether they are doing their job in an effective manner or not.
1
Conrad probably thinks that food comes from the grocery store.
1
Not to mention that the cost of living in Seattle has skyrocketed in that time, and now all of the moron King County voters who couldn't wait for this idiocy are moving south, into my neck of the woods where they continue to vote for the exact same crap.
1
You have to actually admit that you made a mistake before you can learn from it...
1
@dominick253 Double down on one of the things killing us the fastest. Brilliant!
