  1. @rapLate late reply, but I do have a HUGE tip for you for real pipe making. DO NOT USE WOOD STAIN. You will likely poison yourself. Regardless of the shape or material (the most common material is briar) if you want to "stain" it use leather dye. Fiebing's is readily available and has tons of shades and even colors. Do not "stain" the inside of the bowl at all, with anything. If you want to season it a bit before smoking you can mix equal parts water and honey and rub that inside the bowl.

  2. At this point I doubt anyone will see this, but if you do make a pipe yourself and you think it might EVER be smoked DO NOT USE WOOD STAIN. If you want to "stain" your pipe use leather dye, and DO NOT "stain" the inside of the bowl with anything. If you want a neat prop that's one thing, but if you want a smokeable pipe you need to build it in a way as to not poison whomever uses it.
