Hey now, hey hey whoa slow down. It's called networking! Nepotism has always and will always be more effective than hard work and skill.

@booyaah82 This. FHA perpetuates the increased prices while presenting itself as the only option to most people because of the increased prices.

@37Hipper Start small. Do SOMETHING out of the ordinary in that lazy time, even if it's just standing up and walking around for 10 minutes. Make that part of your habit and then make it 20 minutes. Once you are used to moving, start to focus that movement in the direction you want to head. Keep physically moving even when you change and start focusing on movement in your financial life. Improving your physical fitness will help keep you motivated to improving the other parts of your life. It's going to suck, but you can do it and once you've been doing it you will start to feel proud of yourself for overcoming the suck.

It's always easier to complain than it is to do something about it.

@GrantTodd-ku6pf LOL! First of all, gtfo with your semantics. Secondly who are you to say that they don't already own it outright, or are you going to come back and say "Well even if he doesn't have a mortgage he still has to pay taxes so the government REALLY owns it? Not everyone is bad with money.

Keep saving, and put the money to work for you if you think you are still years away. I was 42 when I was able to buy my first house.

I agree although I think changing laziness to dependence is more accurate. The government wants ever more people dependent upon them so that people finally give up and just vote away their rights in favor of social handouts.

@deadspoonxxx Hence my statement "put the money to work for you if you think you are still years away". Or do you think you should just yolo all of your money because why bother, times are tough now and things will always be this way for you no matter what you do? A defeatist attitude will only get you one thing; defeated.

@taylemgames2652 This! My parents were terrible with money, emotionally and physically abusive and my childhood sucked ass. I put my anger and hurt into ensuring that I wouldn't have to live like that and that my kids would be way better off than I ever was and that's exactly how I live. I bought my first house at 41 and I have zero credit card debt, no car payments and my wife is able to be a stay at home mom. I didn't follow my passion or my dreams, I looked at the job market and decided my path based on where the jobs were. I NEVER wanted to work in healthcare but I've been doing it for almost 20 years now and, while the work doesn't thrill me, it lets me live the kind of life I knew I could.

"If you wanted 30+ you needed 10 years experience. And if you wanted more then that you either need to weld on the top of skyscrapers. Or underwater offshore." The skill does indeed mean the opportunity to get paid more. You outlined three methods of increased pay yourself. It took me about 7 years from starting in healthcare to making above $30+. This is how the job market works.

There are a few areas that are still inflated due to population shifts as well, although those are cooling down significantly.
