Well that's what the US have been doing since 2014 where Ukraine bombed civilians in the Donbas with western / NATO weapons. As for article 5 - it does not mean boots on the ground, it means the countries support where / how they can and that may be with aid - just like what ALL OF NATO have been doing not only arming, training and funding UA to NATO standards by NATO but also since 2022.
