Turns out I created a new ick. I was ghosted. No big deal. Later the husband of the woman who fixed us up (still hit) told me why. I was painting a guitar for one of his customers and he wanted it in daphne blue. A custom color Fender offered in the 60's. I contacted the customer and asked if he wanted it as it looked in the 60's or as it does now with a slight green tint. That was it. That's all I did. My friend mentioned it to his wife in front of her 304 friend and it gave her the ick.

@markymarknj That seems to be the case. I was helping out a friend and doing a very very expensive very very time consuming finish. She believed that a real man would just paint the guitar and the customer would have to be happy with it.
