30ish years ago I saw him at a Dimarzio clinic where he did play every song ever written. Nobody could stump him. I can only assume he's gotten better.
41
It only took one guy to write Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
22
He epitomizes, "Play Guitar Like Nobody's Watching." πππ
19
@MUSIC-CENTURY Yes. Every song ever written.

Β @aakashmondal789Β It was a clinic for Dimarzio Pickups. But he could play anything anyone shouted out. This was New Orleans so a lot of the requests were jazz and blues. Didn't seem to phase him a bit. Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane and Michael Angelo (Randall Amps) held the most informative clinics.

Β @aakashmondal789Β Explain practice and discipline?
12
One was a case of great minds thinking alike. Rick's examples are theft.
11
I saw Tommy Emanuel and Tuck (Andress) & Patti in the same weekend. Not sure who's the best but it sure was inspiring.

Doesn't have a style? Huh?

Β @funkspinnaΒ It's on YouTube

If I were that good I'd be absolutely unbearable. π

Well if Matteo likes guitar players that make mistakes I must be his hero.
2
If anyone would like to compare my playing to Eric Johnson's I won't complain. π
2
That hour sure blew by fast.

Centrifugal Funk (with Shawn Lane) changed my life.

To be fair...how many musicians from any era can compare to George Benson?
1
I was 7 years old. My dad took me to see B.B. King and the Downtown Hilton Blue Room.

No spandex?

For me it's always been Comfortably Numb. Perfect phrasing. Perfect tone. Change a single note and the entire song is diminished. Just perfect.
1
Β @Steve-xl1enΒ Beethoven and Baby Face?
1
The same reason we're still talking about Jimi Hendrix.
1
I'm 6'7". Greg and I should start a club.

Any list that didn't list Hendrix and Van Halen tied for first is just plain wrong.

First Steve Morse now this? ππππππ

A good producer/engineer can electronically compensate for a cute singer that can't actually sing. Nothing can cover for poor musicianship.

My guitar teacher (RIP) had perfect pitch...dependent on the last key he heard. Play a perfect A 440 and he could intonate by ear. If he heard a song that was a few cents sharp or flat it threw him off until he heard something else.
