As an excellent student of history, Minister of Landsbergis remembers when then President Trump challenged NATO Europeans of the dangers of failing to meet the bare minimum of 2% of GDP for its NATO defense obligations and sending billions of Euros to Russia for cheap LNG. It took 10 years after Russia's two invasions of Ukraine for 20 of the 32 NATO countries to begin meeting their 2% commitments. Canada will meet her 2% obligation in 2032! It took decades for Europe to gut their defense forces and industrial capacity so it will take at least a decade to get where it needs to be for the Russian attacks that Secretary General Rutte says is coming in 3-4 years. As never Trumper Bret Stephens said, "(It is) time to drop the heavy moralizing and incessant doomsaying that typified so much of the Never Trump movement — and that rendered it politically impotent and frequently obtuse."
