Comments by "" (@Iain1962) on "EU waives taxes, duties on imported medical supplies from non-EU countries to fight #Coronavirus" video.
Does she know the system works I wonder, the VAT is claimed back, so is merely an accounting exercise and the Duty is determined by the EU and 4/5 of it goes to the EU. The whole thing is a scam in the first place, it should be permanently removed. Duty on medical goods. Really?
1
@JV-dc7om The importer pays duty not the exporter. The VAT is irrelevant as it can be claimed back anyway. The goal is to appear to be doing something when in actual fact they aren't really doing anything, because they can't, what can they do? They are just a bunch of parasites in suits shuffling papers.
1
@JV-dc7om If goods are cheaper to buy that is good, your point doesn't make any sense. If the Chinese wanted to profit they would increase the price by the amount of tariff removed, so the end price stays the same they can reduce the price at any time, it doesn't need tariff changes for that.. You don't make any sense. The purchaser pays for the goods they have to order them first. China can't force their goods on us any more than we can force our goods on them. Do you know how business works?
1
@JV-dc7om It still has to be ordered by somebody, doesn't matter who it is. You really don't understand. If I am Chinese and I sell 100 units at 1 and the cost to me is 0.7 I make 0.3 per unit, if I sell it for 0.8 I make 0.1 per unit. So I make a lot less per unit. You obviously don't understand what profit is. It is not turnover. The duty is paid at the point of import by the importer, it has nothing to do with China, it is an EU tax on EU companies and citizens.
1
@JV-dc7om I do trade with China, I know how trade works and import duties. I gave an elementary imaginary example to show the maths, nothing else.
1
@JV-dc7om You are confused, my example had nothing to do with China of course it didn't, it was arithmetic to illustrate how tariffs and profit margins work.
1
@JV-dc7om It is indeed, and all they have done is after all this time remove the barrier that they put in place in the first place!
1
@JV-dc7om Why is there a barrier on medical products? They are in effect forcing states to pay more for equipment and then pocketing the money, because many countries health systems are state run or financed. So they are taxing member states for importing medical goods. Who are they protecting exactly?
1
@JV-dc7om Then why is there a 16% tariff on Oranges?
1
@JV-dc7om Just think about what you just tried to justify. The equipment, whatever it is. Does it meet regulations? Yes or NO? Yes: it can enter the market. No: it cannot. So if it can enter the market how does charging a tariff on the importer provide any further protection? All it does is make it more expensive for us, the purchasers, and the EU pockets most of the Cash, what value do they add exactly for this tax?.
1
@JV-dc7om Exactly. So we have to pay 16% if we want oranges from outside the EU to protect Spanish farmers. Now you understand why we voted to leave,.
1
@JV-dc7om That is what I have been trying to explain to you...Finally You get it. We don't want the protectionist wall, we believe in free trade.
1
@JV-dc7om I rest my case.
1
@JV-dc7om Thank goodness because this primary school level education is tiring.
1
@JV-dc7om Look it was you that came knocking requiring education, if you knew what your were talking about I wouldn't have had to waste my time. If you don't know how things work keep your opinions to yourself. Thanks.
1
@JV-dc7om I said she didn't know how the system works, and then you came along and showed you don't know how the system works. The mechanics of business is ABC, because those are the rules we have to follow.
1
@JV-dc7om It's not my model, it's the model world trade works on. For goodness sake, all I am doing is explaining it to you. However exasperating a task that is, and it was you that introduced ABC into the conversation, not me. Stop digging mate.
1
@JV-dc7om The mechanics of trade model. The mechanics are the same all over the world it is nothing to do with the EU it has evolved over a long time. You are in country A , you buy something from someone in country B. On import you apply the rules for import. All I have done is explain how they work, and they work the same in every country in the world. And my point was why did the EU impose a barrier in the first place !! Why do they tax Europeans for importing life-saving medical equipment? That was all I said, all the rest was your ramblings, and me trying to explain it to you.
