The revolutionary war of 1775 -1783 was not a war between to sovereign state as Great Britain did not recognize American independence before 1783 and those American as a independent state was not independent until after the signing the Treaty of Paris in 1783 so it was not a war between two independent sovereign state; as it was technically not a war between The US and The UK as it was more like a civil war between citizens of the Great Britain (UK) or a war between those loyal to the "crown " and those who wished for independences from the crown as  The American state (US ) was not even a thing before after it was legally recognized as such ; in short it was not a nation, country or state before after the war of independence was over !!
