  1. Remember that Thatcher forced local councils to sell off a lot of social housing. My house was built in the 1950s by the council, for miners to live & work in the area. It was sold by the council in the 80's for £5.5k @ 7.5%. I know of multiple people that have had to buy their house off their parents, ONLY because the parents had paid off their mortgages long ago and were able to build the personal wealth required to be able to move. These aren't secretly wealthy people either.
