I live nomadically in England. I work a full time job as an HVDC Engineer, yet live out of a tent & car. No one knows! I'm not sad about my situation, it's actually quite empowering! All I have to worry about is staying warm, dry, clean, fed and hydrated. The basics. This year alone, I've managed to save £41k. I'm going to keep going til I've saved £100k, then none of it is going on rent / mortgage!

The British are born into a class system that has ceilings on their progression. Naturally, they'll obey whatever dogma their equally as obedient folks, have forcibly decided on them.

@DewiSant-o3y The dream is to buy a bit of forest land to live on!

I lost a mate to starvation last year because the NHS couldn't help him. He took himself to hospital, saw a mental health specialist and kept in overnight. Because he had his faculties (What rational mind encourages starvation!?) and was an adult, he was released. The NHS told him to to ring a number if he felt worse. They should of sectioned him as he told them that he was starving, living in his car and wasn't sure what he'd do once released. 1 week later I got a call from him. When I got to him (He was hiding in Wales, I was in England), he'd suffered a stroke and was sobbing, crying for his dad. My friend died at 24 years old, before the Ambulance got to him. Not once did anyone think that maybe, we shouldn't let the lad be left to own devices.

@enhancedutility266 Van life is far too dangerous. If your vehicle is wrote off or damaged that it's off the road, your home is gone. Expensive too! I live for free in Staffordshire's countryside!

Never an example of how it should be done, just evidence it can be done - Kudos fella, that's a great sentiment!

@GarethPowell-n7n Honestly, the hardest part for many, is dealing with the cold and especially in modern times, the overwhleming sense of freedom without technology/phones. I have a phone like most, yet I don't use social media, so everything I watch, I tend to make sure it's useful and/or entertaining in a positive way! For example: Youtube has taught me how to forage safely. On a basic level mind you.

I'll point out the obvious: The difference is that she actively murdered strangers babies. Your comparison is a moot point.

@Michael-Has-Opinions No children. Not because I don't want too, but because many I've not been meeting many women that want families. I can only have so many hobbies before that need to serve something other than myself, kicks in.

I forget, when was the last time we voted for these clowns?? Oh yes that's it, COVID introduced several new laws that meant that the government doesn't need to hold a vote. Now consider what other laws have been passed whilst we were being hidden away.

@joeyemerace6553 I make good money, yet the same is achievable with less earnings. I quikcly realised how much crap we buy because of owning a home. Just fill it with stuff!

Before or after the mass shooting and political finger pointing?

I know a landlord in Staffordshire with 3, 6-bed properties. 7, 4-bed properties properties. He room-shares every single house and will pull in £500-650 pcm from each room, per house. Pure greed because the systems allow him too.

@edwardsroba Don't care.

@HikingFeral What you going on about?

Remember that Thatcher forced local councils to sell off a lot of social housing. My house was built in the 1950s by the council, for miners to live & work in the area. It was sold by the council in the 80's for £5.5k @ 7.5%. I know of multiple people that have had to buy their house off their parents, ONLY because the parents had paid off their mortgages long ago and were able to build the personal wealth required to be able to move. These aren't secretly wealthy people either.

Why is the UK mental health in ruins? It likely has to do with the ever downward spiral of the quality of life for virtually everyone in the country. Where the idea of having children and homes are literally just ideas; too expensive. Where jobs are paying rock bottom prices for skilled workers, yet those same workers are being taxed constantly. Where people are forced to accept the moral and financial responsibility for the governments "green plans". Where those that should be retired, are still working so as they can afford to stay alive. Where the government is continuously allowed to lie, cheat and steal from the country and no one does anything...

Completely agree.

I think a lot of the people in the 40% shouldn't be paying that much. I get taxed like I'm rich, yet also not rich enough to pay the right people to avoid the tax systems. I'd go as far to say that there's no middle class, only working class. Instead of increasing taxes for people regardless of income, how about the govnernment address the housing market and the ridiculous amount of interest people pay. Money that could be spent locally, instead of lining the banks, already well lined pockets.

No. The public do not want more poeple foribly injected into society. LOOK AT LEBANON!!

@kieranmallon5214 I use my Brother's address for everything. Employment wise, as long as you have proof for your, 'right to work', Passport / birth certificate.
1
@sarahann530 Yes. I use an OEX 2 man tent. A lot of my gear isn't expensive or high tech. I shower and keep my kit in my car at work, travel to my campsite, which is about 12 miles away. Hike out and set up for the night.
1
@gholmes5560 So I use my Brother's address for everything. I have a passport, drivers license and Birth certificate. My employer really likes my way of living, they're very considerate!
1
@carolinamontiel2525 Agree. Van life is dangerous - if you get in an accident, your home could be destroyed!

You got this man! Life's a struggle regardless of what you chose to/not to do, may as well pick your struggle and live the way you want to live. Don't compare yourself to anyone else and you'll find that your self-talk becomes less negative.
1
@lisawatkins8801 That was uncalled for of me. Shouldn't make jokes about that - I apologise.

👏👏👏 Well said

@saernst You clearly made a apples to oranges comparison, yet don't understand lol
1
@saernst Same here. You didn't add anything besides a bad analogy. Try again?

Why would Gen Z fight for a country that they're going to have to fix. It'll be Gen Z and younger that will have to solve the issues caused by the boomers. Why should they?
