My grandmother helped build Spitfires in Birmingham during WW2 - she was 17 when she started working. When she wasn't at work, she was tending to the crops for the family to survive. Women of that generation were tough as hell! Yet no great celebration of their work, no 'history month', no teachings in schools. So little is taught about their sacrifice - many gave their lives to fight - and hardship.

@leehotspur9679 That goes for all countries, regardless of alliance. The women, children and old folk of those decades must of gone through untold horrors, yet no one talks of their struggles. Lets not forget about the Spanish flu pandemic that happened after the first world war, claiming millions of lives. That period after WW1 makes the year 2020 look like a mere foot note. A good dose of perspective is what's needed for the current age!

I can do that to: Those Peaceful protestors were responsible for the genocide of Muslims in Kashmir. If you're going to make ridiculous statements, at least have them a logical point. Arguing that British Troops were bad, is like saying the Artic is cold.

@martinbuchan9432 Specifically the women and civilian roles. You're talking about honouring the fallen, yet miss the millions of average people that - regardless of "side" - suffered and literally supported the countries through bombardment and invasion. You're taught, like I was, one side of the story. Yet many sacrifices weren't paid in combat. I've spent 35 years serving in the military and the private sector. Seen the effects of my countries actions, the actions of soldiers and the "overlooked" parts of war. My great grandfathers served in 'Black Watch' and 'Seaforth Highlanders', along side the Nepalese during WW1. Laying flowers at the graves is so underwhelming, don't you even dare think you can poo-poo the sacrifices of those you're not taught about in school. Go to Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Bosnia, Kashmir and talk to the people about the effects of war. Then have the gall to tell me I'm wrong.

@martinbuchan9432 I misunderstood. Still the children are only taught a single narrative about wars - still wasn't wrong in what I said though.

@martinbuchan9432 Not assuming, nor am I directly referring to you. I'm referring to people as a whole; we're not taught about a lot of things to do with war. Afghanistan is a key example - the British only know what they're told and read. They'll never know what actually goes on. Stop taking offence as I'm not questioning you directly.
