Companies could pay less due to the influx of workers and would profit from the increased production. The issue is that most western societies are welfare states that have to support the current culture. I.e. Most people haven't been able to afford a family since the 1980s - it's extremely apparent in 2023 (Refer to average age of marriage + child birth) - which means the government has to fund everything that's required to keep what was, advantageous, is now a serious issue.
