A sustainable future would be a good thing but your analogy is flawed... A cancer treatment breakthrough in Australia can be used globally. That is, the benefit can be scaled up. The Australian government cannot change the global climate. Australia's emissions are simply too small at 1% to be relevant globally and this is not the same as cancer research. Shutting down a couple of Australia's coal fire power stations isn't going to make any measurable difference to the reef for instance. Yes, there are things that can be done and should be done (if they provide benefit) but as a nation, I wish we would drop the fanaticism being promoted by the leftist media and engage in some pragmatism. Bill Shorten is milking the climate issue for all it's worth and potentially at great cost but at the end of the day he cannot "tackle climate change".

Remote Controlled Except not everyone can legitimately take the same easy pass because the biggest emitter countries are doing 75% of the damage.

Car Electrification EV Enthusiasts Perhaps you're the dickhead? They don't charge in 10 mins. They take over one hour to fully charge and that's only possible at a purpose build charging center and not at home or anywhere else much. Around 100 kW is required for fast charge and that's simply not possible at home where current draw in the range of hundreds of amps is impossible. In fact there are very few locations that could practically support a large fleet of electric cars being charged, bearing in mind that each car is going to be parked for up to an hour. It's not anything like filling with petrol.

Why? The Libs are managing the economy well. The further left you go the bigger the financial mess that will ensue. More taxes and more debt. All of these people babbling about climate change don't comprehend that Australia makes little difference to global climate. Yes, they say it but they ignore it. Australia cannot play a big role in something in which it only plays a small role by definition. People like you who "want to vote them out" will dump a reliable manager and empower a fanatical knee-jerk reaction to something that it can have no effect on and at great cost. We need to drop the ideological based fanaticism and become pragmatists.

Some examples?

sanjuansteve Do you really believe you would have excess power enough from home solar to charge a vehicle? LOL. Sounds great but the problem with most who promote this stuff is lack of knowledge. Home solar is barely enough to run a home. You would need your car to be parked at home all day while you were at work, for instance.

Car Electrification EV Enthusiasts Even if Australia was to meet it's target or better still, surpass their targets, guess what? There would be no measurable change to the global climates. Australia's emissions are simply too little to matter. Given that. cutting it's own economic neck seems rather pointless, right?

matter45 It's not because they have their heads screwed on, it's because NZ is very fortunate in having the necessary renewable natural resources in abundance, in particular, hydro and geothermal. These have been in use for decades and had nothing to do with climate change. Australia has lots of coal. Think about it. Think about this... The Clyde Dam, one of New Zealand's largest generators was vehemently opposed by environmentalists prior to it's construction yet this dam is responsible for a significant capacity. Environmentalists do not like dams and they do not like wind generator turbines not do they like mining nor industry but this is all required along the way toward "getting your heads screwed on the right way". The solutions for Australia are even tougher.

Eric Electric Vehicle's batteries charged up from coal fired generators, right?
