I packed my lunch to run errands and go to appointments today because I knew I’d be out through breakfast and lunch and be starving and ain’t no way I am gonna pay $15 for a crappy fast food meal when I want to pay my car off this month. Yes, everything is more expensive but planning and sticking to a budget goes a long way to making it work to pay off debt quicker.

  27. I was scared when I won a house auction in 2023. It was just me and while the payments were manageable, I missed renting a small apartment. So, I ended up renting my house out and moving into a smaller place. Couldn't be happier with how everything went as I'm able to at least break even while the property appreciates.

  37. In the past, it wasn’t uncommon for two or three generations to live together. Great grandparents and grandparents used to help take care of the children, while the parents worked. My neighbors are doing this now. The great grandma watches the grandkids during the day, takes the older ones to school and picks them up, while the parents and grandparents work. The grandparents will turn 50 this year and the great grandma will be 70.

  42. Man, I know how that feels when my late wife and I paid off our first house in 2008. I remarried in 2017 and bought another house because my new wife didn't want to live in the paid off house, because it was something between me and my late wife. However, after divorcing the new wife in 2018, I started paying down all my debt again. Now, in about a week, I will pay off this new home. I also kept the other house and rent it out and am set to realize at least a 44% ROI on it this year. It could be a 70% ROI if the rental appreciates by 10% this year. So in 5 years I will have paid the new house off and saved over $150,000 in interest. I am already financially free since having 4 other sources of passive income besides the rental. Life is good and I'm about to become a grandfather at 65 yrs of age. Unless you have done it, you don't know how fantastic it is to know you have paid off that mortgage.

  47. JJ we had 2 dogs. I always said I’ll never get anymore because I felt restricted with leaving the house or going on holiday. We then lost one of them in Nov 23 and the other one 8 months later in July this year. I’ll tell you in all seriousness, the silence in our house was deafening. We’d just gotten used to one bark instead of 2, one lot of food at tea time, one waggy tail greeting you, to none at all. After 3 weeks I couldn’t bare it anymore. I’ll take those restrictions. We now have a 6 month old puppy and the soul in our home has returned ten fold. Never say never.
