I’m in the market for a midsize truck. I don’t need a truck, but I want one. I don’t tow, I don’t off road…but I make enough purchases at Home Depot, hauling lumber and mulch, taking yard waste and big things to the dump, hauling mountain bikes, etc…which makes me want to have a truck. My heart says get the Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon due to the looks. But I get scared off from all the problems they are having. When I compare them to the Ridgeline, Ridgeline just makes sense to me. I love the trunk in the bed, and although the bed is shallow, it’s wide and I feel like I can do more with a wide trunk than a deep one. The back seat storage is best in class. The Colorado / Canyon’s back seat storage is pointless. The Ridgeline cabin is just more spacious due to the width. I love that my young kids don’t need to have to climb a mountain to get in, and the stadium seating. When I test drove the tucks, the Ridgeline is just so smooth. I’m not sure I’ll love the bounciness on my commute to work every day. To me I’m 99.9% sure I’ll buy the Ridgeline within the year. I try to talk myself out to buy the Colorado/Canyon, but every time I look at them I get drawn to the Ridgeline more.
Although I thought about a big truck, I just don’t want to drive something so big as a daily driver. I want something easy to drive and park. And mostly, I want something to fit in my garage. Plus, I like to have more bells and whistles, and to go with a full-size truck means that I’ll need to get something basic as I would like to keep it under $50K

I'll copy n paste what I commented on a different YT channel regarding the same subject matter:
Pricing is everything. If the newest generation of Tacoma was a V6 NA, built in Japan and had more options to remove electronics it still would be too much even at 65K. Today we're paying the price of a 3/4T truck pre-pandemic and what we get is a 1/4T truck. Don't believe me? Look it up yourself, I used car.usanews 'Best 2019 Full Size Pickup Trucks' and looked at their pricing.
When you factor in inflation, cost of living increase, MSRP increase, markups, taxes, increased APR what exactly are you getting in return?
For Tacoma's in 2023 we went from a starting MSRP of:
SR 2023: $30,095 vs 2024: $32,995 | $2,900 increase or 9.63615%
SR5 2023: $31,885 vs 2024: $37,695 | $5,810 increase or 18.2217%
TRD Sport 2023: $37,005 vs 2024: $40,895 | $3,890 increase or 10.5121%
TRD Off Road 2023: $38,285 vs 2024: $43,295 | $5,010 increase or 13.0861%
Limited 2023: $42,520 vs 2024: $53,595 | $11,075 increase or 26.0466%
TRD Pro 2023: $49,530 vs 2024: $65,395 | $15,865 increase or 32.0311% (lol)
Here's the pricing before the pandemic:
SR 2019: $26,970 vs 2024: $32,995 | $6,025 increase or 22.3396%
SR5 2019: $28,745 vs 2024: $37,695 | $8,950 increase or 31.1358%
TRD Sport 2019: $33,665 vs 2024: $40,895 | $7,230 increase or 21.4763%
TRD Off Road 2019: $34,920 vs 2024: $43,295 | $8,375 increase or 23.9834%
Limited 2019: $38,910 vs 2024: $53,595 | $14,685 increase or 37.7409%
TRD Pro 2019: $44,080 vs 2024: $65,395 | $21,315 increase or 48.3553% (lmao)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A single dollar in 2019 is worth $1.22 today. Did your wages increase 22%? Did your salary increase enough to accommodate what I said before; inflation, cost of living increase, MSRP increase, markups, taxes, increased APR?
Toyota, you're asking for way too much. 32% increase from a 23 to 24 TRD Pro, really or 48.35% increase compared to a 2019 vs 2024. I don't know about you but do you feel you're getting 32% more out of your truck from the prior year, 32% more reliability, performance or fuel savings? Because lets face it this is why they're going down the 4cyl route + Turbo is to appease the EPA.
Even if you take into account the most modest iteration, SR. From 23 to 24, there was a 9.63% increase in MSRP or 22.33% when comparing to a 2019.
We're simply just talking MSRP too, not to mention the markups that dealerships are charging, anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000+. On top of that, they moved their manufacturing down to Mexico to pay workers pennies on the dollar compared to the States and get to reduce costs of not having to manufacture V6's. Simply ridiculous. The country is broke man, people don't have money anymore. Before you could argue if people were living beyond their means and a lot were but now we aren't even giving an option of overspending beyond our means, the car markets simply dictate that right out the gate. I will drive my paid off Toyota into the ground before I give these vultures another dollar.

100k mile warranty!!
I have the 2nd gen xterra which lasts and last and last forever, had the 22 frontier 4x4, nice small truck, leased a Nissan Ariya EV currently, and when my lease is up, hopefully going into a Nissan Titan.
I am not a loyal car guy by any means, but their trucks never break, have a great warranty, and the newer titans have plenty of enough tech to make me happy, and can tow my 7k trailer without breaking a sweat and no silly turbo's, just a beefy truck.
They're not the most tech updated cars, but the Ariya EV is so much tech with the 12.3" screens, it's a distraction trying to adjust the heat than ever before, plain dangerous.

300 days for the Titan on lot is bad, that thing would have be 50% off before I’d look at it, but like you say, they have some good products but no money to market the products to the right people and markets. They have a dark cloud over themselves from their failed CVT’s. Their inventory looks good on outside but is old. Toyota pretty much left them in the dust and Hybrids are the future. Their former boss Carlos Ghosn who gut the company and fled Japan in a box is another black eye. One dealer in my area has closed, another I visited I didn’t get a good feeing at. I lost faith + trust in Nissan. I wouldn’t buy their product if I had doubts about them being around in the future because I have no assurance who could service the vehicle if a serious recall happened. Could I get parts, who knows. They’ve started to cut staff in TN., so there’s loose ends there. I don’t think employees will stay around in main office, manufacturing or at dealers and will leave. They’re linked to Mitsubishi another loser. I don’t even consider Nissan when I’m looking at SUV’s or trucks, if I bought a Nissan would I be able to resell it or would I be stuck with it cause no one wants it? I just don’t connect with the brand, Hyundai + Kia took their place as the value brand, but I wouldn’t buy Hyundai or Kia either, I’d still buy Toyota or a Ford Maverick or Ranger, Nissan just has too many holes. I wouldn’t take a chance and spend big money on a vehicle because it’s a good deal, I just don’t do that anymore. The people that bought Nissan were people with little money, lived paycheck to paycheck, maybe had no credit, those people are broke now from inflation and have no money to buy anything. Any negative news about Nissan just turns people off. I couldn’t recommend them to friends or family, if I did people wouldn’t trust me. There’s no good word of mouth about them. They pretty much have to fail and start over with a handful of good reliable affordable vehicles where Toyota use to be, cause Toyota has left the value market.

I drive a 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4-door, Auto, V-6, TRD, I drove it out of the Dealership Oct. 2010 for $28,876.35 loaded. It was my 3rd trip to the Dealership, the first 2 trips I walked out, however they had my cell number and kept calling back every 5 days "we can do better." Anyway, love my Tacoma, the milage is super low (40,000 miles) and the reason is I have a 2010 Toyota Camry (96,000 miles). OK, back to the Tacoma, the maintaince is low, I do it myself (retired diesel tech). PS: My last job before retirement was in a Wholesale/ Retail Diesel Turbo Sales Warehouse. That's where I learned more about turbos than I already knew. What I learned was stay away from them in Gas ICE. Some day that turbo is going to have to be replaced. Let's say the replacement turbo cost $750.00 medium price. If you put it on yourself that's fine (not easy) but if you take it to a shop, it'll be $800 to $1100 labor, so now were looking at $1500 to $1850 repair on a part you didn't need on the former Toyota 4 or 6 cylinder. Doesn't make any sense to me, I think I'll keep what I have till they come up with something better, if that ever happens.

Agree with what you are saying, to a degree. I'm waiting till later in the year to decide on replacing my 2009 F-150 Lariat 4x2. I want AWD/4WD, leather/pleather interior, something my wife can more easily climb into, and that we can travel in with my 140lb Great Pyrenees.
The Chevy, when you put 4x4 on it, cheapest ones are about the same as a Ridgeline Sport at ~38K. This isn't really a fair comparison though IMO, the Custom 1500 is very very plasticky and cheap inside including its infotainment and all switchgear. At that level, it doesn't even have any outright towing or payload advantages, and the engine is greatly underpowered vs the Ridgeline. Other than outright interior space and bed space, it's inferior in just about every way.
A more equal comparison would be the LT, which has much better interior and infotainment, and more towing capacity due to the upgraded TurboMax version of the 2.7 4cyl. But now you are talking 44K+ at market, which is near top of the line Ridgeline.
Really a better current gen rip-your-face off kind of comparison to a full size truck would be the heavily discounted Titan with its 5.6L V8. You can literally get a 4X4 Crew Cab Titan V8 for ~40K, same as a Ridgeline Sport or right around an RTL. Those Titans have all the needed safety and tech (blind spot, adaptive cruise, Carplay/Android Auto).
But the Titan is being discontinued, and is even taller than an F150 so ingress/egress is an issue.
Decisions decisions.

These prices are insane.
Using a US inflation calculator an entry level car that cost $2900 in 1974 would be in 2024 dollars be $18,500. A well appointed car that may cost $5000 in 1974 would be in 2024, $32,000.
If we go to 1984 prices an entry level car in 1984 with be around $7000 and in 2024 dollars be $22,000. A well appointed car may have cost $15,000 in 1984, with inflation that would be $45,000 in 2024 dollars.
Let's use 1994 pricing. An entry level car in 1994 may have cost you oh $10,000, that equals $21,000 in 2024 dollars. A well appointed car may have cost you $20,000 in 1994 which would be $42,000 in 2024 dollars.
As you can see current new car pricing has just in the last 3 years gone out of whack considering inflation. Yes, a modern entry level car is typically more well appointed than one in 1974-1984-1994, but much of those add ons are technology based and should be cheaper to add. Plus most of these add ons are things most buyers never asked for, nor really wanted but are forced to take when buying a new car... The highest end vehicles today compared with highest end vehicles of 1974-1984-1994 are insideously expensive filled with more add on crap that will cost an arm and a leg to fix off warranty.
The auto industry in general and not just the failing Stellantis is losing touch with reality.🤔
